For the first time in their 37 years the Coonawarra Vignerons Cup have welcomed a presenting partner: Teys Australia’s 36 Degrees South!
The announcement was made at the Cup’s official launch at the Royal Oak Hotel in Penola last Friday evening, with John Rymill hosting and Kirby Shearing providing catering.
The welcoming introduction was presented by Pete Balnaves, the President of Coonawarra Vignerons (Coonawarra Grape and Wine Incorporated).
The official launch was officiated by Tim Bailey, the Chair of the Cup Committee and Olivia Nunn, the Executive Officer of Coonawarra Vignerons.
The Coonawarra Vignerons Cup has come a long way since its humble beginnings – underneath the launch’s marquees, many guests remarked that the original marquee was only half the size, and the food was stale sandwiches.
These days the marquee is an exclusive and glamourous affair, with up to 720 guests being able to partake in fundraising auctions, fashion shows, and gourmet food and wine.
The world-class wine is provided by the sponsors, which include the cellar doors of Yalumba Family Vignerons, Raidis Estate, Balnaves of Coonawarra, Banks Thargo, Parker Coonawarra Estate, Redman Wines, and Majella Wines.
Bringing on 36 Degrees South was a natural choice – their premium steak will also be available for marquee guests on race day. 36 Degrees South meat is from hormone-free cattle born and bred in the region, and is underpinned by the MSA grading system, so a top quality steak is guaranteed every time.
The 2019 Coonawarra Vignerons Cup is on January 17, and members tickets are currently on sale. They are available at $175 per person, with 500 initially available. 139 had been sold as of November 9, and the first 50 public tickets ($210) have sold out.
(The good news is that there is a waiting list!)
Other sponsors of the Cup include: Adelaide Galvanising; Bendigo Bank; BFL; BOC; Brandstoke Pty Ltd; South East Motor Company; Seguin Moreau; Wattle Range Council; A -P John Coopers; Hahn Corporation; Vinpac; TK Furniture; MCC Labels; Langton’s Winery Direct; and South West Freight.
The Cup Committee, the Penola Racing Club, and Thoroughbred Racing SA also work hard to make the Cup an event not to be missed.
Thoroughbred Racing SA also provided a pure white horse statue for the event, which caught the eye of many guests!
