It’s time to enrol in the Naracoorte VACSWIM program.
VACSWIM is the largest annual water safety program in South Australia, designed to proactively support more than 12,000 children aged 5-13yo by increasing confidence in and around water as well as learning personal survival activities and basic emergency procedures.
The local program at the Naracoorte swimming lake starts on January 2, 2019, and enrolments close on December 19. To enroll, head to www.vacswimsa.com.au.
Funded by the Government of South Australia, the majority of 2018/2019 programs take place on January 2-10. A total of 131 beach and pool programs are managed and delivered by one of eight providers including Surf Life Saving Association, Royal Life Saving Society SA and YMCA.
All programs meet the National Water Safety Education Competency Framework and are conducted by 600 qualified instructors.
Program Manager Amanda Burnett explains that VACSWIM should not be confused with traditional learn to swim programs.
“Ideally VACSWIM should be viewed as a complimentary addition to equally as important swimming lessons. It’s about empowering children with the knowledge to make smart aquatic decisions and what to do when and if they find themselves or a friend in trouble.”
“The best way to enjoy VACSWIM is with a mate. No matter what age, children will enjoy partner work with a friend and they’ll be able to share the memorable VACSWIM experiences for years to come,” Amanda added.
