Yet another fire in Nangwarry has this time claimed the town’s football club.
There have been more than 10 structural fires reported in the town over the past four years, most of them private homes.
SAPOL report from last night’s incident:
Police are investigating a suspicious fire at a Nangwarry sporting club that occurred last night.
About 11.30pm on Wednesday January 9, police and fire crews were called to a sporting club on Bednall Drive after a neighbour reported seeing a fire at the premises.
The club was fully engulfed in flames when patrols arrived but fire crews quickly brought the blaze under control. The premises were completely destroyed by the fire. No one was injured.
Police believe that the fire was deliberately lit and Fire Cause Investigators will be attending the home later today to examine the scene.
Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the street at that time is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at http://crimestopperssa.com.au.
The fire is a major blow to the Nangwarry Saints footballers. Nangwarry has been struggling on the football field in recent seasons, with the Saints’ A grade side not winning a game since July, 2014.
The town has been plagued by a series of apparently deliberately lit fires in recent years, with at least nine house fires since May, 2015.
