A big contingent of local junior basketballers are representing the state this month.
Eleven local players plus a number of officials will be taking part in the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup in Albury from January 12-19.
Naracoorte’s Harry McInnes, Sophie Miles, Oscar Clark and Zac Walker along with Bordertown’s Jacob Grosser will be playing in under 18s, Khalahni Edwards and Ollie McInnes will be in under 16s and Geoffrey Slattery, Taya Brunt and Trixie Crouch (Naracoorte) and Andrea Fuentes (Bordertown) will all be in under 14s.
Glenn Mathieson will be coaching under 14 girls, Nic Lacey team managing under 14 boys and Susie Maber and Zoe Grigg attending as umpires.
The following weekend, Ben Johnson, Eliza Corbin, Mykaela Walker and Chloe Harding will be playing under 15 state basketball in Melbourne.
In coming months, James Corbin, Oscar Marr-McGuire, Brooke Edwards and Rylan Southern will be attending an under 13 state camp in Adelaide, and Liz Abraham will attend as a coach.
Respected local coach Glenn Mathieson said the selections were reward for hard work, with all of those chosen committing to regular high level training programs.
He said performing well for SA could ultimately lead to national honours.
