Maddie Davenport represents region in national dance competition

At only 15 years old, Maddie Davenport has competed at the Showcase National Dance Championships, which were held on the Gold Coast in January.

Representing MJ dance studio in Mount Gambier, Maddie competed in three solo categories in the Senior Teen age group in the Diamond Division (she was the youngest in this division). She competed alongside some very talented dancers from all over Australia and New Zealand.

She received a sixth place for her Lyrical Solo in a very large category, which she was very happy with.

Maddie was also part of the National team from her studio who competed in small and large troupe sections. The troupe was very successful, and she was lucky enough to be in a teen small group and teen large group in the finals.

They came third in both categories, which was very exciting.

Maddie attends school at St Martins Lutheran College in Mount Gambier, and will continue to dance with MJ Dance two nights a week this year. She is also looking forward to continuing to compete at different events in South Australia and Victoria this year.

Showcase is the premier dance competition in Australia, and the winners will be representing Australia at the Dance World Cup in Portugal. So it was a very exciting event and experience for Maddie!

It’s exciting to have Maddie represent the region at this competitive level of dancing, and all the best for her future competitions.

Jazz and hip hop classes are held in Naracoorte every Tuesday evening at Max Life Church. For more information on these classes call 0439 872 309.
