JOTT stands for Jamboree On The Trail and is an annual event which has been held on the second Saturday in May since 1998. It is a chance for the worldwide Scout movement to hike together, wherever they may be across the globe. The Naracoorte Scout Group have been participating for the past few years.
All Scouts regardless of age or physical ability are able to participate in the hike. The idea is that every Scout member throughout the world will be hiking together, sharing the experience of scouting throughout the world.
This year on May 11 some of the Naracoorte Scout Troop members - Ashley Miles, Daniel Patton and Brianna Boyington - met and rode from our hall to the Naracoorte Caves National Park.
The ride was 15km, with great riding conditions, albeit on the chilly side. The group enjoyed the smooth journey, thanks to the council, along the newly sealed Old Caves Road route.
On arrival at the Caves, the hiking stoves were used to cook a hot meal and Milo in the shelter of the caves MCG area barbecues. The afternoon was spent orienteering and tying down the trailer, ready for the drive back home.
The Joey Mob enjoyed a hike at the Naracoorte Caves National Park's newly upgraded Roof Top Walk, under the guidance of their Joey Scout Leader "Rosella" (Anita Miles). Along the walk, Joeys filled in an alphabet nature hunt chart with some creative answers to the more unusual letters.
Special thanks to Cave guides Jennifer McClean and Jinhwa Lee for their assistance for the trickiest of letters - J, X, Y, Z!
Joeys and Scouts were pleased to be part of this international scouting event, and shared our efforts with the official JOTT social page, to put Naracoorte Scout Group on the JOTT journey map!
