Locals to feature in fashion race

The Di Giorgio Family Wines Apsley Cup will return to the Edenhope Racecourse next Sunday June 9 with a revitalised Fashions on the Field contest.

While many think raceday is all about the horses, the Apsley Cup has also become very well known for its Fashions on the Field event.

This year the Apsley Racing Club will reward local participants in the Fashions on the Field with a $250 cash prize for the best dressed.

The aim of the Best Dressed Local prize is to put the focus on the local ladies who regularly support the event but may not be rewarded with the main prize, which is hotly contested by serial Fashions on the Field entrants.

"We wanted to make sure that the locals who put in the effort to dress up for the races get recognised," said Club Manager Lisa Inkster. The main pre-requisite is that entrants must reside within a 50km radius of Apsley.

"We're hoping to see plenty of locals contest the prize," said Ms Inkster.

There will also be prizes on offer for "peoples' choice" to be selected by members of the audience.

While the judges' decision is final, these prizes are a chance for the crowd to have their say.

"People's Choice judges will be selected from the crowd on the day, so be sure to get a front row seat for a chance to have your say," said Lisa.

Given the strength of wool growing in the district, the Apsley Racing Club will again run a Best Dressed in Wool category, with $500 for the winner from Quality Wool.

This has been a long standing category in the Apsley fashions competition to put the spotlight on wool and recognise the importance of wool growers in the region.

Runner up in the wool category will receive a prize pack from Mini Jumbuk - a long time wool fashions sponsor and local business.

The main prize for the winner of the Fashions on the Field is $750 and if previous years are any indication, it will be a hotly coveted contest. Last year's winner was Belinda Nurse from Horsham who is a serious fashionista, entering many fashions on the field contests with great success. The runner up in this category will receive an accommodation voucher for the Parkview Hotel in Melbourne.

Men should also suit up as there is $250 from the Apsley Racing Club for the Best Dressed Gent.

Of course kids are not forgotten! There will be a prize for the Best Dressed Boy and Girl and all kids who get enter will receive a prize.
