Border Inn: Something for every taste

"Cold beer, local wine, great food and bloody awesome staff" are just some of the reasons satisfied customers keep coming back again and again, according to the friendly team at the Border Inn.

An independent boutique hotel and one of the oldest buildings at Apsley, The Border Inn is located on the Wimmera Highway, close to many attractions in Victoria and South Australia.

These include the World Heritage-listed Naracoorte Caves, Coonawarra wine region, the Limestone Coast, Mount Arapiles, Newlands Nature Walk, Lake Bringalbert and plenty of historic buildings.

The original hotel was built in 1850 but following a devastating fire it was rebuilt a little further along the street. With its distinctive art deco facade, it proudly stands on the corner of Wallace and Splatt streets. Over the years it has undergone many renovations before its latest re-opening in 2014.

Today, it is proudly owned by 12 local farming families.

The exciting new menu has something to delight every taste, and offers gluten-free and vegetarian options so those with special dietary requirements can enjoy a delicious meal too.

Every day is a great day to enjoy the Border Inn's food and hospitality, but some days are extra special.

On Wednesdays, for instance, you can enjoy their $20 Parma and Pot special. A full menu is available, along with a self-serve salad and vegetable bar.

Meanwhile, don't miss the Friday night draw sponsored by Vickery Bros Fertliser Professionals and Sir Loin Butchers.

The Sunday Sesh also features a self-serve salad and veg bar to enjoy with your main meal, along with Jag the Joker from 6pm.

The Border Inn features a kids' menu for its younger visitors, a $10 coffee and cake special available every day and a board featuring daily specials including dessert.

Enticing entrees include basil pesto and bocconcini pizza, honey chipotle wings and cheese platters.

Mouthwatering mains include a range of golden chicken or beef schnitzels with gravy, chicken or beef parmigiana, steak, the famous Border Burger served with delicious waffle fries, hasselback chicken with baby spinach and ricotta or the exotic khao soi duck breast in a mild Northern Taiwanese curry.

If sensational seafood is what you desire, try the Namibian hake battered with Coopers Pale Ale or the tender squid in Moroccan spice. And you can never go wrong with roast of the day served with vegetables.

With warm and cosy fireplaces for colder days and a spacious al fresco/courtyard garden with children's cubby house and plenty of play space, tables and chairs, your visit is sure to be a pleasure.
