Australian artists have been putting their creative skills to the test to decorate over 50 AFL footballs for the Lucindale community.

Local artist and community worker JoJo Spook coordinated the fundraiser which saw footballs be sent to people across Australia for them to decorate and send back to Lucindale.

"(The footballs) will be then auctioned off to raise funds to purchase equipment for use in the recently completed Lucindale Community Pool," a fundraiser spokesperson said.

"Decorators include past principals and teachers who have made an impact in the region, renown athletes including Jessica Trengrove, members of parliament ... and ex Lucindale Area School students."

Ms Spook has secured over 50 footballs through the generosity of sponsor SANFL and individual sponsor Lesley Rankin.

The idea came about after wanting to raise funds for the newly built swimming pool at Lucindale Area School.

She wanted the fundraiser to combine both sport and art - two areas the Lucindale community are passionate about.

Ms Spook is a professional artist who is known for her unique style and repertoire of skills.

She has been instrumental in coordinating community projects in recent years and her experience in the arts and education have been recognised.

"Art and education are both passions of mine and this is a unique way that they can cross over," Ms Spook said.

"There's been no limit placed on the themes and mediums that the decorators can use.

"Some of the (footballs) have been transformed into three dimensional objects, some mosaics, they're only limited by their imagination."

Local auctioneer Peter Stock and Calgary Stampede winning auctioneer Ronnie Dix will be bringing the footballs under the hammer and hope to raise maximum funds for equipment for the community pool.

The Decorated Football Fundraiser Auction will be held at 6pm at the Lucindale Hotel on Wednesday, December 11.
