The Kincraig TerryWhite Chemmart in Naracoorte recently decided to raise money to assist those within the community who cannot leave their houses or are frightened to do so due to COVID-19.
Coronavirus is particularly dangerous to the elderly and as a result, many community members have been left feeling lonely and isolated inside their own homes in fear of contracting the highly contagious virus.
Co-owner of TerryWhite Chemmart Naracoorte Gillian Steadman was behind the fundraising idea and said assisting in delivering weekly essentials and other treats might make the elderly or those at risk feel more at ease.
The pharmacy also raised over $1000 through an online Facebook fundraiser which helped go towards the purchase of products.
All products were donated either from the pharmacy or purchased with money from the community's online donations.
These products included magazines, books, newspapers, groceries, vitamins, toilet paper, personal necessities, adult colouring books, and home-cooked goods such as biscuits and fresh scones.
The pharmacy will continue to collect items and deliver them to local residents in need each week.
Mrs Steadman said she was overwhelmed by the community's generosity.
"Thank you so much to all those that contributed, I can honestly say that all your very kind cash donations will go to those in the community.
"These donations will help assure them they are thought of and brighten their day in these very stressful and worrying times.
"Without such caring, supportive individuals within our community, projects such as this one would not be possible," Mrs Steadman said.
Home deliveries to residents in Naracoorte and surrounding towns such as Padthaway, Aspley and Lucindale can be arranged by phoning the store on (08) 8762 2158.
