Community organisations have the chance to support and increase the number of their volunteers with the help from Federal Government grants.
The 2020 Supplementary Volunteer Grants program can provide grants of between $1000 and $5000, and in this round of funding the focus will be on re-engaging volunteers and adapting practices to support their safety in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Volunteering Australia interim chief executive Mark Pearce said the funding would help support volunteers and safeguard their return to the fold.
"With recent research from Volunteering Australia having found 65.9 per cent of volunteers stopped volunteering between February and April 2020, the Volunteer Grants are available now to assist your organisation reactivate your volunteering program," Mr Pearce said.
"Funding can help your organisation support your volunteers and safeguard the return of volunteering, thus allowing volunteering to play its role in social and economic recovery."
The grants can be used for purposes such as volunteer equipment purchases and transport and training costs.
Applications for funding close on September 20.
