It will be a quite a sight at the Naracoorte Swimming Lake with models of some of the world finest ships due to set sail for the Taskforce 72 25th National Regatta on April 10 and 11.
Task Force 72 is a group of scale model ship enthusiasts who specialise in building military and non-military model ships to a uniform scale of 1:72.
South Australian representative of the Taskforce72 Scale Model Ship Association Jim Warren said the public was welcome to come and take part in the fun.
"We encourage people to come down and have a look - there will be plenty on display for them to have a look at and they can speak to any of the members about their vessels and so forth,' he said.
He said models ranged from 250 millimeters in length through to just under 5 metres and varied from military ships, to submarines and ferries.
"Members can build whatever they want - military or non-military. The only rules are they have to be built to a 1:72 scale and the propulsion has to be electric.
Many members, like Mr Warren, build military vessels due to their experience in the navy.
"I'm ex-navy and there are quite a few ex-navy people in the association," he said.
"I took it up when I went into retirement for something to do."
A naval officer from Adelaide will be in attendance as a reviewing officer and to present awards.
Pop down to the Swimming Lake from 9.30 am Saturday and Sunday and chat to the members, or watch a sail past.
