Lucindale men Rowan Giles and Andrew Wilks embarked on a trip of a lifetime this week, after raising a whopping $62,000 for charity.
The pair, who have dubbed themselves Lucindale Survivors, left Lucindale on Tuesday to take part in the Shitbox Rally, where they will be travelling from Alice Springs to the Gold Coast in 7 days from May 22.
To raise the funds, they have been holding regular meat raffles, with meat donated by local businesses.
They were sent off in style, with a last minute fundraiser being held at the Lucindale Hotel on Sunday, where they raffled off 25 meat trays and held a silent auction to raise some more money.
The men have raised an impressive $62,155, far surpassing their original goal of $5000.
Mr Giles said he was amazed by the support they had received since the started fundraising last year.
"At Christmas, we thought we'd done enough of the meat trays, we thought people would be a bit sick of them by then and we'd raised about 18 grand," he said.
"It went berserk from there - we had a couple of good donations from our locals and then more followed suit.
"It was a lot more than we ever expected, We had no intention to raise that much.
"We've raised over $60,000 which is amazing."
So far this year, Shitbox Rally has raised more $2.5 million, which will go towards cancer research.
"People are very generous and are very aware of the cancer cause," Mr Giles said.
"It is such a good, worthy cause -the funds go into everything involving new research for cancer cures."
50 teams from around the country will be participating in the drive plus all the team's support crews.
To participate in the rally, participants must drive a vehicle valued at under $1000.
Once each team reaches its destination, each of the vehicles will be auctioned off, with 100% of the proceeds donated to the Cancer Council.
The men's vehicle is sure to attract some attention, with a lovely bright paint job, courtesy of local artist Hamish Macdonald.
There is still time to donate to the cause - donations can be made at https://autumn2021.shitboxrally.com.au/lucindale-survivers
