Farmer's Leap to welcome back loyal patrons after seven-day lockdown

South Australia's recent seven-day lockdown forced numerous businesses to close or operate at a reduced capacity.

Padthaway's Farmer's Leap Wines was one of the many businesses affected by the lockdown, but with restrictions easing slightly on Wednesday, the winery is looking forward to the return of its loyal patrons.

During a press-conference on Monday, premier Steven Marshall confirmed that businesses were allowed to reopen, but must adhere to strict density limits of one person per four square metres.

The address also mentioned that restaurants and cafes can reopen for seated dining only.

Farmer's Leap national sales manager Adam Jeffries confirmed the winery's cellar door would reopen on Wednesday, much like countless other businesses in the district.

"The one person per four square metre restriction, will allow us to have 21 patrons inside, and due to the poor weather, we aren't likely going to see people wanting to sit outside," Mr Jeffries said.

Despite the cruel blow that the state lockdown inflicted on businesses across South Australia, an uptick in visitation during the school holidays proved to be godsent for the Padthaway-based winery.

"We were flat-out busy during the school holidays, which was great. We are lucky that we had that busy period before the lockdown," Mr Jeffries said.

"Typically this time of year is a little bit quieter, due to school going back etc, so hopefully we haven't lost too much business over the last week or so."

The past 12 months has seen the winery receive a significant amount of publicity, featuring on an episode of The Cellar Door in June last year, South Aussie with Cosi in March, and SA Wine Weekly on July 22.

Mr Jeffries said television appearances over the past year have come about through "pure luck", however, he explained the winery's steady increase in popularity has seen these opportunities become more frequent.

"The South Aussie with Cosi episode came about through pure luck - they contacted us looking for a place to stay and film something different," he said.

"We paid a small fee for the other two opportunities, but we believe it has given us some great exposure."

Recent television exposure has resulted in people from outside of the district travelling into the region to see the winery, and in some cases, stay in the region.

"After the Cellar Door episode aired we found that a lot of people came to the cellar door and said they had seen it - we are obviously yet to see how much the recent episode will affect us," Mr Jeffries said.

Farmer's Leap, like many other businesses across South Australia, will hope that restrictions will continue to ease over the coming weeks, and some sort of normality can be restored.
