The Limestone Coast Landscape Board recently allocated grant funding to 13 projects across the region, with support with a total value of over $200,000.
This year is the third round of the Grassroots Grant program for the Limestone Coast community with the funding aimed to support eligible individuals, volunteers, schools, organisation, Indigenous and not-for-profit groups working towards land management and sustainability.

Limestone Coast Landscape Board chair Penny Schulz said she was proud of the achievements and outcomes over the last two rounds of the Grassroots Grants.
"Mount Burr Trails were a recipient last year and the funding has assisted with weed control and planting new vegetation at their Mount Burr community site," she said.
"The trails are a beautiful place for families to visit and the new vegetation will provide habitat for the native animals that exist in the Mount Burr area."
The 2022-23 Grassroots Grant recipients include:
- Naracoorte Lucindale Council - restoration of Naracoorte Creek through removal of weed species and planting endemic species to improve habitat and amenity.
- Avenue Tree Group - Avenue fire recovery, round 2, by supporting landscape scale fire recovery, increasing community awareness and involvement in landcare initiatives through planting and guarding program.
- The Trustee for Nature Glenelg Trust - Audit of key southern bent-wing bat caves, critically endangered species, to gather information on access, maintenance, and other issues relevant to human and bat use.
- Grain Producers SA - Production of a series of videos to capture and promote the sustainable practices used by farmers to keep their soils and grains healthy.
- Mundulla Common Working Group - Continued weed control encouraging regeneration of native species to improve wetland and creek health in the Mundulla Commons.
- Nature Foundation Ltd - Geegeela Nature Reserve Spring Biological Survey to investigate, identify and conserve threatened flora and fauna species within the reserve.
MacKillop Farm Management Group (MFMG) was another previous Grassroots Grants recipient and investigated outcomes of applying a variety of organic amendments to sand-soil in the Hatherleigh region.
MFMG Chief Executive Officer Meg Bell said that success in the round of grants ensured the team could continue to develop their resources to support primary producers in the Limestone Coast.
"This has provided the opportunity to compare organic amendments with more conventional amendments and gain an understanding of how these might be used for Limestone Coast businesses and farming practices, to ensure they are sustainable and resilient," they said.
Funding for the Grassroots Grants program can assist any eligible community project with funding for next year to be opened in March 2023.
